Pizza Conjecture To Sink Your Teeth Into

pizza

Pizza.

A word imbued with memories of yumminess in nights gone by. An infamous way to feed large parties, or the perfect cozy dinner for family nights in.

When recalling my thoughts on pizza, they arrive swathed in memories of ooey gooey goodness, and topped with cheese. Not unlike that sentence.;)

We often ordered pizzas growing up; and I swear I was done with it by the time I was 10.

The pizzas regularly arrived served on a thin cardboard flavored crust- they really knew how to stretch the flour budget – and covered with tidbits of food the pizza place minced up.

Seriously, what was that I ate – ham spice?
And lest we forget – the cheap cheese with grease pooling in the shallows.

Precious memories! You could’ve whipped up a batch of french fries with the poured off grease.

Old school delivery pizza was rivaled by old school coffee (pre-Starbucks era) for most consumed non-edible.
Coffee put on a decent show. Reminiscent of mud on its own, it was only marginally improved with powdered whitener and cubed sugar.

I am fairly certain that like todays coffee, modern pizza shops have improved, but barring a catastrophic kitchen incident, i won’t be ordering in to test the theory.

I know exactly what ingredients are used in my pizzas, I can pile the toppings all the way to the moon, and there are no fossil fuel-esque slurries puddling anywhere near these shallows.

Hands up if you remember those Lenny & Squiggy [greaseball] pizzas?!? Ha!; or Lenny & Squiggy for that matter!! If you’re nodding at that, I bet you remember the coffee too!

Contrary to common folklore, pizza doesn’t equate to junk food.

Made well and eaten in moderation, it can be a well balanced meal featuring all 4 basic food groups.

For my latest pizza creation, I used French Bread dough crust, a tomato based sauce, onions, white mushrooms, stuffed manzanilla olives, sliced ham shank and pineapple.

It was spiced with freshly cracked mixed peppercorns, oregano, rosemary, and basil.

I topped it with a combination of cheddar and mozzarella.

Oh, I’ve never tried using French Bread dough crust. Brilliant idea. I will have to try next time I make pizza from scratch.
